Hey guys, i am currently considering going into Radiography and studying to be an xray technologists. For that i will need to take out a 30,000 dollar loan and thats a big step in my life. i was researching websites like monster.com to see how many job openings there are in my field and there are none. This worries me. I dont want to take out a huge loan and then not find a job. So how do you find a job? Are these types of jobs usually posted in classifieds or are there other ways to find those jobs in that medical field? BTw if any of u are in the same field how much money do you make? Also one of my friend's mom went to a medical institute to become a surgical technician, she took out a loan and when she graduated she wasnt able to find a job. That worries me greatly as well. The Medical field unlike most others, is growing rapidly. However be aware that the need for certain jobs in the Medical filed is subjective. The biggest shortages are in the Licensed Professional category. Physicians, Registered Nurses and Physicians Assistants are in great demand. Medical Billers are in great demand. However medical technology is always changing and unless you are trained in a specific field that the hospital needs, you are competing for the position with lots of other people.Go to a hospital and talk to the HR people. Tell them your plans and see if they think they will anticipate a need for the skills you will be getting. Do not listen to the sales pitches of the diploma mills. They are usually just behind the hiring curve and are producing too many candidates for outmoded technology. Just be aware that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.I spent $50,000.00 getting a masters degree in a Medical Programming specialty and it has paid off. However I went into a field that was recommended by the Hospital I eventually came to work for. There was a shortage of trained personnel on the west coast.
