mkay, right after i graduated hs i moved halfway across the country for college...turns out the college was only interested in getting my loan payment and then forcing me to either another 50000 dollar loan or drop out...couldn't afford another loan, so i had to leave...i moved back home where we have a program that the state pays for you to go to college if you graduated here and have a high enough ACT score...soooo...i took care of all of the stuff so that i could start tis fall at the new college, and came to find out that my old college refuses to release my transcripts...i don't know why, but they are saying that I owe them over 8 grand...and they say i owe them that much b/c they had to send back 6 grand to the loan company and they charged me all kinds of fees for doing so...but the loan company has never recieved the return payment, since february...i can't find any attorney to represent me against the school, though...what do i do?

Refusing to release transcripts for not paying bills is common. Evidently they feel you owe them money, and it seems that since you want some transcripts, you took courses but didn't pay for them according to their records. I see a couple choices... you could try to bargain with the director, but that probably won't work. You could just forget about the transcripts and just retake classes at the college you attend now (the state pays for it anyway), but I doubt you'll want to make up the time. So, it's time to think outside the box... maybe you can get a student worker in the department to send you a copy on the sly... or maybe you can get a friend to start working there and send you a copy on the sly. There's always bribery... most college students would probably do it for a hundred bucks... but then there's the ethical considerations. I'd forget the attorneys... they will bleed you dry.

can you still log onto the school webiste and print an unoffical transcript? if they are saying that you owe them money then you should still be considered a student there and should be able to do that. if not just wait it out, it seems too expensive and stressful to be going through that, plus if they are closing they should be obliagated to send out transcripts.

If the school closes, it is doubtful they will release anything to anyone. I knew of a school that closed, the students (and employees) came to school one day and the doors were just locked.Sorry.

Try printing out an unofficial transcript like the other answerer suggested. If they close, just who do you think is going to send out transcripts?Worst case scenario: you receive no credit for the classes that you took there. Try contacting your state and federal representatives and senators. They all have employees who do "case work" - who help constituents with problems like these. Do it now. If these folk shut down, you are unlikely to ever get a transcript.
