Hi, my boyfriend has a new job and desperatly needs a new car. I have heard ther is a loan offered for Aboriginals in Australia that has a lower percntage repayment. Is this true? Is this loan only offered as a housing loan incentive or could my boyfriend get one to purchase a new car? Do all banks offer this Aboriginal loan? Or would my boyfriend have to apply at a certain bank? How would my boyfriend go about applying for this loan? Any information please, Thanks heaps peace out

I think that the answer above is right in relation to banks. If you get a loan from a bank everyone is treated equally. They have to pay it back with the same rate of interest. However, some banks have taken steps to advance employment opportunities for Aboriginies in recent times and it may be worth asking around. Commonwealth Bankhttp://www.commbank.com.au/about-us/in-t…NABhttp://www.nab.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/na…WESTPAC http://www.westpac.com.au/internet/publi…ANZ Bankhttp://www.anz.com.au/aus/About-ANZ/Corp…http://www.anz.com/edna/dictionary.asp?a…Some of these sites will give you an idea of what the banks are doing even if it isn't in the form of direct loans. It is interesting to see which ones are actually being proactive and which ones are just talking. If there is any assistance it will be from the government and most likely through Centrelink. There are some programs that the government has set up to assist people back to work. This could provide finance for your friend. You could just ask. This article says that the ANZ Bank has a home lending policy with indigenous Australians.http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/sto…Try the Federal Department of Families, Housing, Community Service and Aboriginal Affairs. http://www.fahcsia.gov.au/This appears to have some scope for aboriginal people getting loans. I don't know how you will go for small person loans though. The emphasis at the moment seems to be on housing. I think that a personal loan through a bank or credit union - be careful about credit unions claim that they don't charge fees some do - would be your best bet. There is not need for a loan broker. If either you or your partner were students you may be able to get an ABSTUDY loan. You would have to meet the conditions to pay this back.Good Luck!!!
